You can’t smell her, taste her, keep each other warm, have a conversation or fall in love. You can’t take her out for dinner, on dates, to meet your parents or any other type of function. This counterfeit relationship takes no work at all, and the communication is effortless. This was not God’s design.
1. God handcrafted Eve for Adam
What an awesome God! Thank you for marriage and the sexual union! It is very clear that sex “outside” of marriage is a sin. Sex was not designed to be with self, or images of others. Two warm bodies experiencing each other in nakedness and pleasure was the design. It was to be enjoyed by those committed to each other in marriage. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed (Genesis 2:24-25).
2. We are laying ourselves bare before images
Whether in our minds, or with the use of electronics of some sort, magazine or movie. However we use these “images” they become the center of our worship. But it is God alone whom we should be worshiping (Matthew 4:4)! Nothing will get in the way of our worship of these images. We have, “exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator–who is forever praised. Amen” (Romans 1:25). Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship (Romans 12:1).
3. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit
We are prostituting our bodies with these images and forsaking our Creator (1 Corinthians 6:15-16). How could this glorify or honor God in our bodies? You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body (1 Corinthians 6:20). Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). We must remove these types of “self-centered” pleasures to be able to honor and glorify the one who bought us with his blood. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral (Hebrews 13:4).
4. While in the act of viewing these images we become slaves
We can’t imagine that we will eventually become slaves to it. But that’s exactly what happens. When overcome by desire, once again we obey our master and head off to our worship service. Oh, we may think we are not slaves but consider the cycle. You may be ok for a time, a month, or even more than that, then coming out of no where, we fall right back into listening to our slave driver. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness…(Romans 6:19-20.) All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be dominated by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12). Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin (John 8:34.)
5. Although masturbation is not mentioned in the Bible, gratifying the flesh is
And isn’t this what “masturbation” is anyway? Constantly gratifying the flesh we are supposed to be “crucified” to (Galatians 5:24). Satisfying the most important person on the earth at that time, me. This gratifying is what led us into slavery (Romans 6:16). So I say, live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit…(Galatians 5:16-17) It is “by the Spirit” that we are able to “put to death” the misdeeds of the body (Romans 8:13).
6. While viewing images for our self-gratification
We are looking for the “right image,” to fulfill our fantasy. We quickly “discard” one image after another. If we can no longer get what we want from one, we move to another. How is this training to have the mind of Christ? (1 Corinthians 2:16) Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2). Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires (Romans 8:5). Whatever our minds are “set” on will determine the “object” of our worship.
7. You are a new creation
Old things have passed away; behold, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). Is this you? Are you a new creation? Has anything changed? Have you left your “old life”, to pursue the “new?” But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed?…(Romans 6:21). And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:11). But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness (Romans 6:22).
