Today is Part 5 of 6 in our acronym T.H.I.R.S.T., and we will be looking at the ‘S’ which stands for, “Serving.” As a reminder our verse has been John 6:35 and our focus is to “Never Thirst.” To be satisfied in Jesus Christ is to “never thirst” for the things this world has to offer, but finding life and satisfaction in him alone.
Who are you serving? The place which satisfies your thirst is going to be the place where you serve. If self and sin is your life and “you” are the most important person in your life, you will reap what you sow, for the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life (Galatians 6:8). When you “offer” yourself as a slave, you become a slave to the one you are offering, just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness…(Romans 6:19-20.) All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be dominated by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12). Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin (John 8:34.) What are you a slave to? What have you been dominated by? What is your practice?
