Today is Part 3 of 6 in our acronym T.H.I.R.S.T. We will be looking at the ‘I’ which stands for, “Identity.” Our verse for the six weeks is John 6:35 and our focus is to “Never Thirst.” Jesus said that in “coming” to him one would “not hunger” and that “believing” in him one would “never thirst.”
Our time and habits will show what our true identity is. Even if we claim to be serving the Lord at the “top of our lungs,” it’s not what we say, but our actions that determine “who” we are and to “whom” we belong. Can you say with the Apostle Paul, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). Are you crucifying the flesh? Or are you defeated day after day by the flesh? Are you making progress in your faith from infancy to maturity? Are you walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16) and having moments of spiritual victory followed by stumbling and falling into sin? Or are you walking in the flesh followed by stumbling and falling into Christianity? Your time and habits will prove who and what you are devoted to. Will your time and habits reveal that your identity is not with Christ as you supposed? If anything but the Lord has the majority of your time and habits, you may be serving a false god by your actions and a false faith by your lips!
“They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator, who is forever praised! Amen” (Romans 1:25).
