Live By The Spirit

I looked like a Christian, sounded like a Christian, acted like a Christian, but I didn’t live like a Christian. Rather, I lived according to the sinful nature feeding it’s desires. Looking back, I question when I truly came under true obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ.

My flesh I would constantly surrender to, the Spirit I would constantly quench. I had to say, “no” to God when He provided the way out.

16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want (Galatians 5:16, 17)

The key to victory over the flesh is?

A) Following our own desires

B) Living according to the flesh

C) Living by the Spirit

The benefit of living by the Spirit is?

A) We will not have any desires

B) We will not have many desires

C) We will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature

Building into the sinful nature only brings us further out of fellowship with the One who knit us together in our mother’s womb. Searching to fill the “void” as if anything else would do. What are we searching for? Satisfaction? Yes! And submitting to the Spirit is where satisfaction is found!

Why can’t we beat this battle of flesh and Spirit?

A) There’s a battle?

B) They harmonize well as I go back and forth

C) They are in conflict with each other

You see, the conflict isn’t so much with the flesh as it is in maintaining a “right,” or righteous relationship with Jesus Christ! Hear that again! The real struggle is, maintaining our relationship with the One who spoke and everything leapt into existence at His command! This is the battle my friends! He is the focus! He gives new life which brings about change that leads to freedom!

I wish you’d quit messin’ with my serenity! Here I was thinking how I’ve got this whole thing whipped and you come along and speak truth from The Word….just messes up my whole program…..Now I have to go “Brandmyself” so I’ll feel better…sheesh!

Another good article. I liked the closing part especially. A fixation on Jesus! Focus on my Savior instead of my sin. Even when I am running or turning away from my sin, I need to be careful that it is still not my focus.
